Meet Ramsey, LA’s dark, experimental pop version of the Weeknd. Okay, that was a mouthful.
Ramsey gets full credit for her eclectic but ambiant vocals, she writes, composes and produces all her own work. (Hats off to her.) She pulls from the influences of th Weeknd, Portishead, Glass Animals and Phantogram. She’s known for being consistent (check out her Soundcloud posts these past months), sexual and a force to not be reckoned with. Other sites credit Ramsey for her abilities to manipulate the emotions her sound exudes.
Let’s dive into this track. So I definitely understand the comparison to the Weeknd but I think I got my hopes up. The first couple times I played “The Garden” I was disappointed, not because it wasn’t good but because I was expecting something else. I think I was more so frustrated because I was unable to place Ramsey in one box.
However, I do like it.
Ramsey has the capability to make mysterious different. There’s something in her that as a listener I can’t put my finger but I relate. I gave “The Garden” a three day weekend to grow on me, and it did. Now in comparison to the other projects she recently released, this is the one that will get you hooked to her.
