#Emmys: This is Why Lena Waithe brought us to Tears

“The things that make us different, those are our superpowers.”

Aziz Ansari and Lena Waithe took home an Emmy last night. But Lena made history last night, as the first black woman to be nominated (and win) an Emmy for Best Writing for a Comedy Series for her earth shattering episode of Masters of None, “Thanksgiving.”
Lena not only wrote but also starred in the episode, as Denise.
Lena spoke on the behalf of the both of them onstage and her inspirational acceptance speech included a heartfelt shout out to the LGBTQ community.
“I see each and every one of you… The things that make us different, they are our superpowers. Every day when you walk out the door, put on your imaginary cape and go out there and conquer the world. Because the world would not be as beautiful as it is without us in it…Thank you for embracing a little Indian boy from South Carolina and a queer black girl from the south side of Chicago.”
