History was made this year at New York Fashion Week 2016. For those who don’t know about fashion week, every year New York City has one week devoted completely fashion and the top designers from around the world. Designers from all over come and host fashion shows for their up and coming collections. Imagine if you will a room in which you can see top designs from Louis Vutton, Dolce & Gabbana, and Marc Jacobs for an entire week. It’s a big deal.
This year fashion designer Anniesa Hasibuan has made history with her line of hijab couture. This by far has got to be my favorite thing to come out of fashion week. Muslim women are forever present in America and are damn proud to rep they’re culture yet I feel like they are constantly ignored or Muslim culture is looked at as if it’s something to be feared.
Anniesa brought hijab fashion to the forefront this year with her beautiful designs. While I wasn’t there to see the fashion up close from the pictures I saw the models working full hijab fashion in pastel and metallic colors. Some had lace patterns and some models looked like they popped right out of the trendiest point of the 1960s.
I can not say how happy and excited I am that an event so prevalent as fashion week has become more progressive. I’m beyond excited to see what next year brings!
