Though it’s rumored that the situation has been brewing for quite some time.
This is what West said to fans at the Seattle stop of his The Life of Pablo tour, Wednesday:
“Let me tell y’all something. There will never be a Watch the Throne 2. You know why? Because that’s the reason why I wasn’t on the song [“Pop Style”]. I wasn’t on the song because of Hov. Because of some Tidal/Apple bullshit. This shit get me tight every time I perform this motherfucker. Y’all didn’t get what y’all was supposed to get with me and Drake on this song because of some Tidal/Apple bullshit. This shit got me tight. Every time I perform this song I think about the shit. I think about the politics and the bullshit. I think about how hard I go for music, for art, for y’all, for the fans—how hard we go.
I started freestyling to it. Jay thought of a couple lines. I said, ‘Man, just go ahead and throw that on there. They’ll be so surprised. He probably wouldn’t expect you to be on there.’ And [Drake] was like, ‘Oh shit, The Throne is on this shit!’ Then Jay thought about it and, out of respect for Meek Mill, he ain’t want to be on the track. And I said, ‘Look, I’ll call Drake, I’ll call Meek, I’ll call y’all…we gotta let people have this song!’ But then it went out of that territory and it went into some Tidal shit, some political shit, some shit about percentages on songs. I can’t take this shit, bro! Our kids ain’t never even played together. Run that shit.”
So back to the point. Apparently, the whole “Pop Style” situation isn’t the only thing causing issues between the moguls. Now if you’ve really been paying attention, you should know that sources from Jay’s side are saying that he could never really stand the “Pablo” rapper.
A source close to Bey‘s hubby revealed to RADAR, “Jay can’t stand him…He looks at him as this crazy, eccentric mother***er he can tolerate in small doses. Kanye is a nut job. Everyone knows that.”
Apparently, for Jay it;s all about the money, “Jay was like, ‘I’m gonna knock this [Watch the Throne album] out. We’re going to do a tour to bring in millions of dollars. I can tolerate that.’”
However, another source claimed that the two are actually like brothers: “They are brothers, closer than friends. Jay appreciates Kanye’s genius, understands his passions and eccentricities and is accepting of it all.”
There’s even sources claiming that Jay misses the old Kanye. Last night, Page Six dished some information that Jay Z’s Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder Kareem “Biggs” Burke dropped on them.
“I was shocked to hear what Kanye said onstage. There was never anything rumbling . . . so when you hear these things in public, it’s a little shocking,
“The last I saw [West], he spoke really highly of Jay. I’m not sure about the relationship at this point. I spoke to Jay [after Kanye’s rant] and we’re both just like, ‘We miss the old Kanye.’ From what I know of Kanye, he’s usually really honest. So it sounds like something he’s going through right now. He may [say] something like that, and then three weeks later he may be back to, ‘That’s my brother.’ But at this point, with everybody’s career, we’re a little too old for rap beef.”
So why are hearing about this beef from everyone BUT the hiphop mogul? Well, money could be a main factor, also The Carters have known to be more private regarding their drama. With the exception of Lemonade…sip sip.
So here’s the theory, Jay is trying to do damage control. It’s no secret that West’s TLOP helped Tidal out a lot. Why risk losing West to another streaming service? Or maybe he’s even trying to get his hands on the project Ye’ and Drake are rumored to be collaborating on?
