Well, if you didn’t get enough of Zayn Malik with his single “PillowTalk,” today is the day you’ve been waiting for. The ex One Direction member finally dropped is much anticipated solo album, Mind of Mine today. Yes, and it is some of the best that I’ve heard from a member of One Direction.
It’s not a secret but I’m not a big advocate of what I call these new age boy bands. I’m a 90s baby, and trust me when we did it we did it right. Today I feel like there aren’t really many of today’s groups that can compete with NSYNC or The Backstreet Boys or New Kids On The Block or even come close. Then again, I may be a bit bias. Today’s boy groups are childish and they normally stay that way, which is why I don’t pay them much mind. But I applaud Zayn for breaking out of this, because the result is amazing.
Anyone who dares to criticize the 23 year old for leaving the group, listen to that album and check out what he had to say about this bold career move.
“Once [the fans] hear it, I feel like they will understand me a little bit more, and they’ll understand why I did what I did, and why I left the band, and why I had to write this s**t down…Because for five—not even for five years, for ten years, this album has been in my brain, and it’s just been there, sat with me, needing to be out.”
Do you get it?
“It’s a nice feeling to come out of a place where you are being told what to do and to be upset because of certain expectations are set and things that people want to see. It is just all my perspectiveand that’s fully liberating…I wouldn’t be able to give you one standout moment where I was like this is what I want to do because I guess I just always kinda knew.”
It’s wonderful that Zayn’s gets to assert himself and make his career moves. Congrats!
